 TRADITIONAL BRACES

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.

CERAMIC (CLEAR) BRACES

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

SELF-LIGATING BRACES

Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces. However, self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics, meaning fewer appointments and less friction being placed on the tooth. Self-ligating braces come with traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. They are the same size as metal braces, but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.

INVISALIGN

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that are virtually undetectable. This means you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotating them when needed. Your aligners are engineered to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time. When you change to the next set of aligners (typically every week) your teeth gradually move into position.

ACCELEDENT

AcceleDent Aura is a lightweight, comfortable, and hands-free appliance that is used 20 minutes per day as a complement to orthodontics. The exclusive SoftPulse Technology's® precisely-calibrated micropulses gently accelerate the movement of your teeth as guided by your orthodontist.

SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS

Surgical orthodontics is a combined treatment by Dr. Gross and an oral surgeon to correct severe jaw abnormalities. A treatment plan is determined after reviewing your X-rays and models.

Dr. Gross initially levels and aligns the teeth in the jawbone, then the oral surgeon positions the jaws into a more normal position to allow the bite to come together ideally. This procedure results in the improved ability to chew, speak, and breathe, while also delivering enhanced facial aesthetics.

TMJ/TMD

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

The temporomandibular joint connects the jaw to the skull. Pain in this area is characterized as Temporomandibular  Disorder. This joint is similar to many others in the body, and as such, is susceptible to conditions like ankylosis, arthritis, and dislocations.

TMD Symptoms Include:

  • Biting/chewing difficulty or discomfort

  • Neck and shoulder pain

  • Dizziness

  • Hearing loss

  • Headaches/earaches in the morning

  • Jaw pain or tenderness

  • Reduced ability to open/close the mouth

Should you notice any of these symptoms, please contact our office. We can diagnose and provide you with treatment options.
